Tips for giving your skin a vitality boost
Movement is the key to life, give your skin a boost of energy to kickstart 2020!
We all have the capability to make healthy choices if we so desire. I know that the holiday season comes with a lot of foods and drinks that may not be the best choice when it comes to our delicate skin. I’ve noticed small, dry, red patches along my forehead, chin, and cheeks! I also know that I’ve made some poor food choices, my sleeping patterns have been off, and I haven’t been getting enough exercise (and I may have also binge watched a few shows too).
Although I loved every moment of my time off, I now have to get myself back in check and start making healthier choices.
Here are some tips on how to give your skin a boost of vitality:
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is an ancient method of healing. It utilizes temperature variations of water to direct healing in a certain way to a specific part of the body. Many forms of hydrotherapy exist such as baths, saunas, steam rooms and hot/cold towel treatments. I love taking baths at home as part of my weekly self care ritual. I also add herbs, salts, oatmeal, or essential oils as part of this experience. It gets my blood and oxygen flowing and sweat glands activated for the removal of wastes.
Exercise
The start of a new year is the perfect time to get yourself back into the swing of things, whether it be at the gym, a yoga/pilates studio, outside and or at home. Movement first thing in the morning is extremely beneficial as your lymph system depends on it. Our lymphatic system does not have its own pump to keep our lymph fluid moving, so it really does depend on us to keep things balanced. This time of year is crucial as we hibernate and slow our lives down a bit. We can become stagnant, which is a breeding ground for all types of bacteria and viruses to thrive. So let’s move! I love long walks with my dog in the morning, or 5 minutes of gentle yoga stretches to start my day. If your a gym buff, carve out 30-60 minutes of your time to spend there before or after work.
Dry Brush Your Face and Body
You all know how much I love dry brushing right? Well if you don’t, you’re about to! Not only is it a great way to slough off any skin that’s ready to be shed, but again, it’s another great way to kickstart your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system plays a huge role in the immune functions of the body and the first line of defence against disease. In short, we need this system to keep moving consistently on a daily basis for our overall health and wellness. Dry brushing will increase circulation, soften, and detoxify our skin. Over time it will reduce the amount of congestion (blackheads) as well as oxidation (free radicals).
Taking care of your skin is important. Besides trying these tips, it is always a good idea to treat your skin to a facial. You can visit our facial services section to learn more about the facials we offer, or to book a professional skin consultation.
