The power of face massage and touch

Facial massage has always been my absolute favourite part of a facial treatment. I remember being in school and only wanting to work on my classmates faces. It was where I felt most challenged and drawn to. Everyone’s skin is completely unique. What works for my skin may not exactly work for your skin in the same manner. In school we are taught the groundwork for giving a facial treatment. Luckily enough I had a really good teacher who also loved everything about the skin and was eager to get us ready and prepared for the “real world” of esthetics.

I was immediately drawn to the facial massage portion as well as manual lymphatic drainage as I would literally watch people melt into the bed and sometimes even fall asleep. I knew right away that this was something that I was actually pretty good at and would feed off of the idea that I get to massage people’s faces for a living! It may sound strange to others but the empathy in me was so ready to give back and nurture the people that walked through my door.

Growing up, I loved when my friends would play with my hair, tickle my arms or when my mom would give me back scratches. I would instantly go into a state of bliss. I learned later in life and is actually called my parasympathetic state. This means that I instantly went into a rest and digest state of being. My blood pressure would lower, my breath would soften and my mind would be at ease. All through the power of touch and especially touch with intention. This is where true whole body rejuvenation happens…if only I knew this in my early 20’s!

The Benefits of Face Massage

Flash forward many years later and I find myself making a career through the power of face massage and touch. It’s like a dance between me and the person receiving; increasing the flow of oxygen, blood and lymph within the tissues. The release of tight muscles (especially in the jaw area) helps to restore muscle length and volume.

Facial massage can do the following:

  • Brings fresh nutrients to the skin

  • Smooths out fine lines

  • Helps to decongest clogged pores

  • Drains out cellular waste

  • Reduces puffiness

Blood flow is key to vital and glowing skin as it ensures even skin tone, nutrient delivery and quality detoxification. Premature wrinkles, dullness in the skin, skin that doesn’t heal properly, inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, and dark under eye circles can be due to the fact that we don’t have proper blood flow moving through our tissues… enter face massage!

Through a mindful and intentional practice, combined with the techniques and teachings I’ve gained through my journey into holistic esthetics, my hope is that you will leave feeling vibrant, replenished and fully restored.
