Fall back into your beauty rituals with facial Gua Sha
As we are half way through September, I can’t help but be reminded of how short lived our summers are here in Canada. I know for myself that summer can be a super busy time of year. Whether work related or spending extra time with family and friends, my usual beauty rituals tend to slack a tiny bit for lack of a better word.
Gua Sha, a Traditional Chinese Medical Treatment
As you all know by now, I absolutely love facial gua sha and the profound effects it has on my skin and overall emotional well being. This is one of my favourite beauty rituals and when worked on consistently, mirrors incredible results.
Facial Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese Medical Treatment that improves the overall health of your skin and tissues which ultimately leaves your skin looking and feeling more radiant, lifted and sculpted.
Facial Gua Sha is able to:
break down tissue blockages
move lymph which carries away cellular waste and extra fluid in the tissues
stimulate chi (Qi) which ensures the body has a constant flow of oxygenated blood full of nutrients
support the changes in blood flow within the muscles and tissues of your face and neck
Gua Sha Becomes a Mindful Practice
The great thing about this treatment is that you really get to slow down, ground yourself as it becomes more of a mindful practice. I like for people to gauge how much pressure they are using, the angle, direction and area in which they are sliding their tool, all the while envisioning what’s going on underneath the skin; what’s at work! Using this tool with intention really does amp up the results in your skin. Immediate results include increased blood flow, relaxed facial lines and a more sculpted appearance.
Now, as I get ready for a busy fall season, I want to make sure that I set aside extra time for my facial Gua Sha beauty ritual. I ask that you do the same! Carve out an extra 5-10 minutes either morning or evening where you can begin your ritual, as it may take you a little longer to get your unique flow going.
I definitely suggest attending a facial gua sha workshop near you, so you get hands on experience with your tool of choice. I also suggest doing your own research into facial gua sha and to look up Britta Plug at Studio Britta as she is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful educator as well as someone I totally love and admire!
